We are a proud member of the Learning Away Consortium.
Learning Away is a consortium of 16 third sector, public and private organisations working with children and young people, teachers, leaders and parents to enrich young lives through school residential learning experiences. Our members are active in representing and delivering a broad range of residential learning for young people throughout the UK, from outdoor adventurous experiences, to camping in the school grounds, to staying overnight in heritage and arts venues. The consortium – both as individual organisations and collectively – are working for equal access to the life-changing impact residential learning experiences can have on young people. We are doing this by:
- Disseminating the findings of the Learning Away action research on the impacts of residentials on resilience, wellbeing, achievement, relationships and engagement in learning to enable schools to make the case for investing in affordable and inclusive residential programmes for all pupils;
- Supporting schools to overcome the funding challenges including promoting low cost models;
- Supporting schools to improve the quality and therefore impact of their residentials, ensuring a greater return on investment.
To help schools make their residentials more inclusive and effective, Learning Away are running national #BrilliantResidentials and #WinterResidentials campaigns supported by a website which hosts free resources for teachers and over 100 good practice case studies. This includes planning information, activity ideas, downloadable templates, presentations and films. Talks and workshops are also running across the UK and training modules are being developed to specifically support teachers with the planning and execution of Brilliant Residentials.
