Low Bank Ground and Hinning House can be used by independent groups who wish to run their own event or we can help you create the perfect programme using our staff and facilities.

Both centres are ideally situated for exploring the Lake District, with excellent facilities for creating a course tailor made to your needs.

If you would like to use our equipment and expertise, staff at the centre can help you plan the course you would like for your group. It may include activities on the lake, or exploring the challenges of the forests and mountains with activities such as mountain walking, rock scrambling or orienteering. There is also always the option of using the centres just to enjoy the beautiful peaceful environment.

Hinning House

Hinning House, available for independent group accommodation

Hinning House is a purpose-built outdoor centre in the beautiful Duddon Valley, close to Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain.

The Centre is in a spectacular location, surrounded by superb places for rock scrambling, climbing, hill walking, orienteering and mountain biking. There are also beautiful valley walks along the River Duddon, and farm visits can be arranged.

Hinning House can accommodate up to 30 people, all under one roof, in seven bunk bedrooms. Four of the rooms have six beds, and three have two beds; all bedding is provided.

Hinning House has a cosy atmosphere and; as well as offering tailored residential stays for schools and independent groups, including healthy meals and a full activity programme led by expert staff; the centre is available on a self catering basis. Additionally, centre staff can be booked in advance of your stay to run outdoor activities.

There is a very well equipped kitchen with commercial grade equipment, including a ‘pass-through’ dishwasher; as well as a large dining room, drying room, lounge area, video conferencing, computers with internet access and a multi-media DVD-enabled Smartboard. Hinning House has full central heating, as well as a woodburning stove.

Low Bank Ground

Low Bank Ground, available for independent group accommodation

Situated close to beautiful Coniston Water, Low Bank Ground is the perfect base for all outdoor activities.

Low Bank Ground can accommodate up to 46 people in two self-contained buildings: Highfield and Rough Close; which can also be hired separately. As well as tailored residential stays, including healthy meals and a full activity programme led by expert staff, Low Bank Ground is available on a self catering basis.

Stone-built Highfield looks out across Coniston water to the Coniston Fells and has direct access to the lakeshore. The building sleeps 32 in 10 bedrooms – five of which have en-suite bathrooms – in a mixture of bunk and single beds. Two large bedrooms are suitable for wheelchair users, and there is a high dependency suite with two profile beds, air conditioning and full hygiene suite.

Rough Close is a traditional Lakeland building which sleeps 14 in four bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. The shore of Coniston Water is a short walk away, across fields.

Highfield and Rough Close both have: kitchen and all necessary equipment to cater for your group; dining room and lounge with television and DVD player; drying room; and Wi-Fi access.

Activities can be provided for your group by booking a member of centre staff in advance of your stay, this gives access to the full range of centre pursuits and all the necessary equipment. Use of either building allows access to the lake shore where we have a jetty, a small pond suitable for introductory kayak sessions and barbecue and campfire area.
