Our base in the North West is located on the edge of Wigan town centre, in the grounds of Mesnes Park.
From it we deliver a range of programmes that help young people and families in the Borough and the wider region to make positive choices in their lives.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE)
Our Wigan team have been successfully assisting young people through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme for many years. DofE is a programme of adventurous, practical and cultural activities for young people aged 13 ½ to 25. The Award is recognised all over the country as being a great achievement so is a great thing for any young person to have.
There are 3 levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold and at each level a participant completes activities in 4 sections. The programme is accessible to all young people including those with physical disabilities or learning difficulties.
Our youth workers have particular expertise in supporting young people in making a successful transition from care into independent living, and into employment.
Operating alongside statutory leaving care services, our ‘Get Real’ programme for care leavers has been making a demonstrable difference to looked after children in Wigan and also on the Wirral. We are keen to explore the scope to deliver this programme in other North West localities.

Residential Outdoor Learning
On behalf of Wigan Council we also manage the council’s two lakeland Outdoor Education centres, Low Bank Ground and Hinning House. The centres’ qualified and experienced teaching staff offer schools and colleges exciting outdoor courses using dramatic and inspiring natural environments. We also provide training and activity courses for adults and family groups and special interest holidays. Priority is given to Wigan Council schools but there are usually dates available for other groups.
