In recent years our youth workers have delivered a broad range of programmes to various groups across the county.
These include: a support service for young people leaving care; the Prince's Trust's Team programme; and supporting young people to have a voice, for example through Youth Councils. We have done so from our base in Ambleside, and also by co-locating with partner organisations. We are however looking to establish our own bases within key localities.
The first step in this has been the development of a base in Barrow-in-Furness and after that hopefully Whitehaven and Carlisle.
Programmes currently being delivered in Cumbria include:
- Support young people to be better able to cope in difficult circumstances and do well in school and life
- Prevent the onset of common mental health problems by building resilience
- Learn from different approaches influencing service redesign and future investment in prevention
At our inspirational centres in Ambleside, Coniston and the Duddon Valley. To use the words of one head teacher:
This programme has had a profound impact in our school. Our students’ self-esteem has been enhanced by their active involvement in a programme that promotes independent learning and citizenship.
The south western corner of Cumbria is dominated by Barrow in Furness, with market towns including Ulverston and Dalton along the peninsula – find out about our impact in the area and the stories of the people, organisations and businesses we work with.
A degree to develop a future generation of voluntary and community sector leaders for Cumbria and North Lancashire. The programme offers a structured and supportive mix of leadership training, one-to-one mentoring and the opportunity to achieve a Degree in Social Enterprise Leadership.
