Our estate at the head of lake Windermere where guests enjoy unrivalled peace and quiet just minutes from the delights and facilities of lovely Ambleside.
An idyllic setting
As staycations go, you’d struggle to find a more ideal setting. Brathay is at the epicentre of all the exciting attractions and outdoor adventures the Lake District has to offer, yet we are tucked away, surrounded by the beautiful mountain views that have inspired our most famous poets and artists for centuries, with our own ancient woodlands and private lake access.

At the heart of the estate is Brathay Hall, an impressive Georgian country house where we have a choice of en-suite accommodation.
Homely and comfortable
We believe our accommodation takes some beating, not just for its central location just minutes from the shops, restaurants and bars in Ambleside, but also for its affordability and flexibility. We want all our guests to enjoy a peaceful, relaxed and comfortable stay.
Wander in peace
Our guests are welcome to explore the grounds and take a stroll down to the lakeside during their stay. All we ask is that dogs are kept on leads (we often have livestock in adjacent fields) and that you keep a safe distance from any outdoor activities going on around the site.

We also offer en-suite accommodation in stylish Swiss-style lodges close to the Hall; a traditional Lakeland self-catering house ideal for families; five electric hook-up pitches and hostel-style accommodation for larger groups.

We deliver life-changing wellbeing programmes to disadvantaged young people across Northern England and most get to stay at Brathay as part of the experience.
