The Brathay 10in10 | 10 Marathons in 10 Days
The Brathay 10in10 is our biggest fundraising event of the year — and this one was no exception. Scott Umpleby, our Race Director and Sponsored Events Lead, gives us a round-up of this year’s event and how you can get involved in the next one.

Brathay’s annual 10 marathons in 10 days fundraising event was held in beautiful warm, dry weather – the Lake District at its best. Fifteen dedicated runners set off on their first lap of Windermere on 8th May, with eleven making it to Day 10, completing 262 miles of running around England’s largest lake.
Now in its 19th year, the Brathay 10in10 has grown to be our biggest fundraising event of the year, raising funds to help us inspire young people across the UK to build their brighter futures. The runners have been training and fundraising since June last year and all display huge commitment to supporting Brathay’s cause. So far, they have raised over £75,000 and donations towards their campaign can still be made here:
As often happens, some of the runners were forced to retire from the event due to illness or injury. We wish them a speedy recovery and hope to see them on the start line of a future Brathay 10in10.
We were all delighted that the event’s Founder, Sir Christopher Ball, came to celebrate with the runners on the final weekend. He also contributed to the fundraising campaign by running his own 10K at the age of 90! Remarkable scenes at Brathay Hall as Sir Christopher led the runners out to meet their supporters ahead of their final marathon. His original idea and continued support has enabled Brathay to create the most inspirational and successful challenge fundraising event in the country.
A group of Brathay 10in10 Club members, made up of previous participants, joined us for a reunion lap of the 26.2 mile course. There were emotional scenes as all our runners crossed the stunning finish line on the lawn at the Hall in bright sunshine.
