RowRunner – a race across Windermere to help young people in Barrow
Engineers, apprentices, office dwellers and gym goers all took to the water of Windermere at the beginning of last month as part of our charity’s annual fundraising team challenge, RowRunner.
We played host to five teams of eight who rowed the 20-mile trip along the full length of Windermere and back in glorious sunshine, while nominated members ran up the three fells of Latterbarrow, Gummers How and Wansfell. It’s a challenging course which usually takes around 7 hours to complete.
Funds raised by each team help to support young people and their families in need in the Barrow and Furness area through our various community support programmes.
BAE Systems, in Barrow, acted as sponsor to the event helping to extend our impact on young people lives even further.
Sarah Cubiss, delivery manager for Brathay in Barrow said:
‘Rowrunner is a fantastic fundraiser for Brathay with all proceeds being directed to our youth development programmes in Barrow. We have worked hard to support young people and families throughout lockdown and beyond, offering mental health support, activity programmes and running sessions around wellbeing. It’s such a crucial time to keep the support going and fundraisers such as this enable us continue to help individuals and families.’
This year’s winners, Dales Whalers – a team from the well-known home recipe box service company SimplyCook – completed the course in an impressive 6 hours 23 minutes.
The next edition of RowRunner will take place on 15th July 2023. To register a team, please get in touch here:
