Our top-rated pubs in the Lake District – all within walking distance of Brathay Hall

14 November 2023

There’s no better way to embrace the cooler months than cosying up in a British pub – and if you’re staying at Brathay Hall this Autumn or Winter, then you're in for a treat! We’re just a stone’s throw from some of the best pubs the Lake District has to offer. So, wind down after a day of exploring with some local Cumbrian beer and food at one of these pubs all within walking distance of your Lake District accommodation.

The Golden Rule | 1.5 miles from Brathay

A classic English pub with a warm and inviting atmosphere. You’ll be greeted by the crackling fire, perfect for chasing away the autumn chill. They have a great selection of local ales and fine whiskies, and for those who want to escape the noise, no background music, big screen TVs or game machines. A spot to just relax.

The Britannia Inn | 3.2 miles from Brathay

If you head towards the Langdale Valley you might stumble across this charming pub. Known for their excellent choice of cask ales and delicious menu made from fresh and local produce, The Britannia Inn is an ideal stop for those who want to make the most of our quiet back roads and footpaths to Elterwater.

The Waterhead Inn | 1.4 miles from Brathay

If you’re looking for a pub with a view, The Waterhead in Ambleside should be your top choice. Situated on the breathtaking lake shores of Windermere, this recently refurbished pub restaurant offers a delectable food and drink menu that everyone will enjoy.

The Druken Duck Inn | 2 miles from Brathay

For those willing to walk the extra mile, the Druken Duck is well worth the effort. Nestled in a hamlet between Hawkshead and Ambleside this quaint pub is renowned for its exceptional food. This is not your typical pub grub. Open for lunch and dinner every day, we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Royal Oak | 1.2 miles from Brathay

If you’re looking for a traditional pub experience, head over to The Royal Oak in Ambleside. It has character and a welcoming atmosphere, with weekly events to entertain. If you’re here over the weekend, why not book in for their Sunday Roast with excellent vegetarian options available.

Brathay’s local pubs provide the perfect place to cosy up during you Autumn or Winter Lake District getaway.
