Nature Connectedness: The Power of Nature

12 April 2023

Have you ever felt a sense of peace and tranquility when surrounded by nature? That's nature connectedness - the feeling of being a part of the natural world and feeling connected to it. It is a deep-rooted emotional bond that humans share with the environment and it's essential for our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

At Brathay, we're all about the great outdoors and we know first-hand the importance of nature connectedness. That's why we've partnered with ECO-I North West and Lancaster University to understand the significance of connecting with nature. We incorporate nature connectedness into all our experiential programmes, providing opportunities for participants to engage with nature at our residential site in the stunning Lake District.

What are the benefits of nature connectedness?

Studies have shown that spending time in nature can make you happier, more creative, and more resilient. It can help you manage stress better, have less anxiety, and be less likely to be depressed. And that's not all - being physically healthier means that you're less likely to take sick days!

But it's not just about incorporating nature connectedness into our programmes. We believe it's important to build a sustainable relationship with nature in our daily lives.

The climate crisis is a clear indication that our relationship with nature needs repair, and nature connectedness can play a part in enhancing that relationship. That's why we provide participants with the skills and techniques to connect with nature, such as tuning into their senses, connecting with their emotions, noticing the beauty of nature around them, and caring for nature.

How to connect with nature in the workplace?

By building this new relationship with nature, employees can improve their wellbeing and be more productive in the workplace. They can notice the beauty of nature, celebrate it, and take care of it. Connecting with nature in your daily routine and workplace environment will lead to a healthier, happier, and more positive workforce.
