Maximising Teamwork: Benefits of Professional Facilitation

3 March 2023

Are you tired of unproductive meetings where nobody seems to be on the same page? Or are you struggling to get your team to collaborate effectively towards a common goal? Then maybe it's time to call in a professional facilitator to help.

In this month's blog we dive in to the many benefits of expert facilitation and how it can transform your team, and ultimately your organisation:

What is facilitation?

Professional facilitation is a skilled process of supporting a group of people to work together effectively towards a common goal. Furthermore, it involves designing and leading sessions that engage participants in open communication, problem-solving, decision-making and action planning.

An expert facilitator knows how to provide a neutral, objective and structured approach to help groups achieve their goals. Throughout the process they will help the group stay focused, manage conflict and ensure everyone's contributions are considered. At Brathay, we work in various settings and can help in different types of facilitation such as team building, conflict resolution or strategic planning.

How to know if you need professional facilitation?

1. Ineffective meetings

Bad meetings kill productivity. Research shows that most meetings are unproductive which is wasting time and money for organsiations. By working with a skilled facilitator, you can improve the effectiveness of your meeting leading to better outcomes and increase productivity. Facilitators can help you ensure your meeting has structure, is running smoothly and achieving its intended goal, they will keep the conversation on track, manage time effectively and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be heard.

2. Poor collaboration

Have you noticed that certain team members tend the dominate the conversation, or some are consistently disengaged? Professional facilitation can help create an environment that encourages equal participation from all team members.

To achieve this at Brathay, we create psychological safety within the group, ensuring that everyone feels respected and heard.

3. Decisions aren't being made

If your team often gets stuck in indecision it may be time to bring in a professional facilitator to help. An expert facilitator can guide a team through complex discussions and decision-making processes, help identify and address the root cause of problems, create clear vision and strategy and help teams develop and implement effective action plans. In addition, they can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to have their input heard and considered.

4. Conflict is effecting the team dynamic

It's not unusual to have disagreement within a team, in fact it can be healthy, but if that turns into underlying conflict or tension then you will want to nip it in the bud now. An expert facilitator can mediate to promote open and safe communications which guides a group towards finding common ground.

5. Lack of clarity

Does your team feel there is confusion or ambiguity around roles, responsibilities or goals? This is where a facilitator comes in. A facilitator can help clarify expectations and create a shared understanding of the team's objectives, priorities and strategies.

Are you ready to work with an expert facilitator? Our team are experienced in professional facilitator and have worked with organisations around the world helping them to achieve and exceed their goals. Book a call with us today and let's start the conversation.
