Yesterday the government announced that everyone should stop non-essential contact with others. As a large-scale event involving more than 2,000 runners, staff and volunteers, that leaves us with no choice but to announce the postponement of the 2020 ASICS Windermere Marathon and 5k.
We are extremely disappointed by this and are sure you will be too. No doubt you are well into your training and looking forward to the grand day.
We are now investigating options for running the event during the autumn, subject to the support and wellbeing of all stakeholders and further Government guidance, and hope that you will be able to join us (all entries will transfer to the revised date).
Organising the marathon involves a host of complex requirements, so we need to ensure we can successfully deliver the event on a new date to the high standards you have come to expect from us.
We will update you soon regarding the date change, and hope that you understand why we have to do this. We very much hope that you will continue to support us, and our marathon, on the revised date.
We will also be moving the Brathay 10in10 challenge (10 marathons in 10 days) to fit with the new marathon date. We have a team of dedicated runners preparing themselves to take on this incredibly tough physical and mental test of endurance, with all of them fundraising for us.
With all that is happening at the moment their huge challenge, and their vital fundraising, are more important than ever. Please support them, and us, and consider donating to their fundraising pages. Thank you.
The events are organised by Brathay Trust, and income from them plays a significant part in allowing us to continue our work to improve the life chances of children, young people and families.
