We will be kickstarting our 80th anniversary celebrations, by opening the doors of our historic Ambleside estate this March for two afternoons as part of National Lottery Open Week. It’s a wonderful opportunity for local residents, supporters and alumni to explore the estate, learn more about our heritage and contribute to our growing digital archive.

For eight decades, the Brathay estate has been a place where young people have come to learn, grow and find new opportunities. These Open Days offer a rare chance to step behind the scenes, discover more about the estate’s story and see how outdoor learning has evolved here over the years.

Visitors will be invited to join gentle guided walking tours of the estate, led by members of our team. These tours cover around 1km and offer insights into Brathay’s past, its connection to the local landscape and the role the estate has played in shaping outdoor learning for generations.

You can also spend time exploring items from the Brathay archive. A member of the Lakeland Arts team will be on hand to guide you through selected pieces from the collection and share more about the ongoing heritage work supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

Dates and Times

We’re hosting two Open Day afternoons:

• 8 March, 12pm–4pm
  Guided tours at 1pm & 3pm
• 12 March, 2pm–6pm
  Guided tours at 3pm & 5pm

Refreshments, including tea, coffee and plenty of cake will be available.
