Inside Our Hubs: Latest Community Programme News (May 2024)

Our community programs are vital to fulfilling our charity's mission of supporting young people in need. Here’s an update on our recent activities as we approach summer.

THE PARK VIEW EVENT (BARROW-IN-FURNESS)

We're thrilled to join Raise and The Knotted Project in a partnership to transform Park View, an urban wasteland in Barrow-in-Furness, into a community forest. Brathay has led community engagement efforts, encouraging local residents and organisations to participate in activities like planting and joining our celebration event, which involved a brilliant performance by young people.

Our goal is to empower the people of Barrow to take ownership of this new community forest. By caring for it themselves, they will develop a deeper understanding of and connection with nature. Ultimately, when we care for nature, we care for ourselves.

This project is funded by Westmorland and Furness.

PROM FOR ALL (KENDAL)

Prom For All, an initiative by our Youth Matters Project in Kendal, helps Year 11 and Sixth Form students feel great at their end-of-year prom. Thanks to the generous public, we received hundreds of donations of formal dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories, all free for the young people to take home.

We hosted two events at Kendal College, where we helped 66 young people find their perfect outfits. Additionally, hair and beauty students from Kendal College were on hand to complete the look!

Thank you to everyone who donated to Prom For All and to Kendal College for being excellent hosts.

UNITE: YOUNG REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS (BRADFORD)

UNITE is a pilot project to support young asylum seekers and refugees and promote improved wellbeing and resilience, and to connect the young people and their families with local support.

We're excited to share that we have recruited the first group of young people for this pilot project. They will have opportunities to participate in activities in their local community and come to our Lake District centre for an unforgettable residential.
