to last a lifetime
At Brathay we work with young people of all ages, many of them victims of circumstance, be it crime or abuse; battling with addiction or mental health; making the difficult transition from a life in care, or facing long term unemployment or complex family issues.
Our programmes have impact by creating an unconditional ‘safe place’ where young people are encouraged to re-engage with themselves and those around them.
We build on wellbeing by developing relationships based on mutual trust, respect and understanding with young people and their families. Our community programmes can involve: supporting young people and their families within the family home; individual support sessions for young people including coaching and therapeutic counselling and group based programmes about a range of issues including employability, wellbeing, citizenship and exploitation.
We can also combine all this with digital delivery and an immersive residential stay at our centre in the Lake District.
It is this unique blend of community based support, face to face sessions, creative activities, outdoor experiences and online interaction, that allows us to gradually influence beliefs, attitudes and behaviours resulting in long lasting positive change.
We work towards specific objectives around engagement, self-development, and leadership, but within each is our commitment to enabling young people to be the best version of themselves:
- Engagement - positive connection with family, education and community.
- Development - self-belief and realising choices for a more positive future.
- Leadership - taking responsibility for themselves and others.
