What was the challenge?

As a Training and Competence Intern at Siemens, Aimee had just started her journey as an Early Career Professional. After two
months in the role, it was time to head out of the office and onto residential. She was apprehensive at first because she did not
know many of her colleagues. However, she was keen to learn and meet likeminded people with an interest in personal development.

Aimee told us, “I knew collaboration would be important when I started my internship, but I didn’t realise how central it would be to everything I do. I used to work at my best when I worked independently and the idea of working across teams and relying on others felt unfamiliar”.

What did Brathay do?

At Brathay, Aimee met Early Career Professionals working at Siemens across the UK. In small teams, they were encouraged to share ideas and make decisions as a group during activities such as whaling and hiking. Aimee said:

“Our ideas were so much stronger because they were shaped by all our perspectives."

What was the impact?

On her return to the workplace, Aimee saw an immediate shift in her mindset and started to explore new opportunities. She said, “It’s
really transformed my experience at work. After Brathay, I embarked on the brand ambassador programme which I currently take a lead on. We share ideas and take ownership of how to represent Siemens externally. Before Brathay, I would have been hesitant but now I love it and I’m actively looking for more opportunities”.

“Another project I’m working on is a countdown to Christmas learning calendar alongside my early career colleagues. We are working together to research different ideas and design visuals to share across the business. I now take any opportunity to collaborate with other people and say yes in a heartbeat”

Brathay helped me learn that collaboration wasn’t just a skill, it’s more of a mindset and effective teamwork is the foundation of leadership.
