Covid-19 - Keeping you safe at Brathay

The health, safety and wellbeing of all our guests is something we have always taken very seriously.

The coronavirus crisis has presented us with an unprecedented situation that we’re working hard to respond to, to protect those staying with us and our own staff.

We have been careful to ensure that decisions we have made follow the government’s guidelines, and as these are changed and updated, we’re responding immediately to make sure we are implementing the latest and most effective processes possible to ensure you can have a safe stay with us.

After an exceptionally difficult and stressful period for many of us, we know that you’ll be looking forward to enjoying a relaxing break – our sincere thanks for thinking about staying with us at Brathay Hall.

We want to make sure that the peace and quiet of a stay in our Lake District estate also gives you peace of mind.

We’ve put together a 10-point plan which we hope reassures you that we’re going above and beyond to keep you safe, without spoiling your stay with us.

We know that things are changing fast and that you may be concerned about making a booking that you might need to change or cancel. There’s also a chance that you might not be able to come for your stay with us because of a change to the government’s guidelines.

We’ve adjusted our Booking Policy to give you extra peace of mind. The details are available on the same page as information about our 10-point safety plan.

We have a range of accommodation options, examples of which are detailed below:

Old Brathay

Old Brathay has been recently renovated, providing fantastic self-catering facilities, and is situated on our Lake District estate, overlooking the picturesque River Brathay.

With 8 large bunk rooms Old Brathay can accommodate up to 32 guests with Wi-Fi throughout. It boasts 2 relaxing lounge areas with comfy sofas, televisions and even some fun games, like table football - anyone for a tournament? There are also 2 airy group rooms, shower facilities and a small kitchenette for preparing light meals.

If you're looking for a bigger kitchen and dining space for your group we’ve got you covered! Add the adjacent Little Brathay to your booking, which has a fully fitted kitchen with large dining area that can hold up to 70 people.

Large group? Add Lingmoor to your booking to sleep up to 52 across two buildings.

Hestead House

A lovely, self-contained, cottage that can sleep up to 11 guests. The accommodation spans two floors and includes an en-suite twin room on the ground floor, complete with wet room and access for disabled guests.

Upstairs there are two large bedrooms, which sleep 4 in bunk beds and a separate single room, completed with an array of bathroom facilities and storage areas. The house is comfortably furnished with a fully fitted kitchen (to enable groups to self-cater) and includes a large lounge with sofas, a flatscreen television and an iPod docking station.

Shackleton Lodge

Shackleton Lodge is a well-equipped self-catering bunkhouse in a beautiful woodland setting with open-space, parking and every facility you need.

Accommodating up to 31 people, sole-occupancy, Shackleton Lodge is ideal for a large family and friends get-together, or any other large group. There is a fully-equipped kitchen and dining block just a few steps from the lodge, plus a purpose-built BBQ beneath the natural leafy canopy that the tall trees provide.

Eagle Crag

Eagle Crag is a well-equipped self-catering bunkhouse in a beautiful woodland setting with privacy, open-space, and it's own parking.

The setting makes this a fantastic choice for walking and outdoor activity groups. Accommodating up to 24 people in dorm-style bunk rooms, Eagle Crag is ideal for a large family and friends’ get-together, or any other large group.

There is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area able to seat the whole group, with a large seating space. A TV room has bean bags and comfy chairs, and there is a games room with table tennis too.

Low Bank Ground (Coniston)

Away from the Brathay estate, and situated close to beautiful Coniston Water, Low Bank Ground is the perfect base for all outdoor activities.

Accommodate is available for up to 46 people in two self-contained buildings: Highfield and Rough Close; which can also be hired separately.

Stone-built Highfield looks out across Coniston water to the Coniston Fells and has direct access to the lakeshore. The building sleeps 38 in 10 bedrooms – five of which have en-suite bathrooms – in a mixture of bunk and single beds. Two large bedrooms are suitable for wheelchair users, and there is a high dependency suite with two profile beds, air conditioning and full hygiene suite.

Rough Close is a traditional Lakeland building which sleeps 14 in four bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. The shore of Coniston Water is a short walk away, across fields.

Update, Feb 2021:

We're delighted to say that we will be able (subject to confirmation by the government) to re-open our self-catering facilities, and a limited amount of our room-only accommodation, from 12th April.

The government's guidance says that self-contained accommodation can re-open from this date, provided that there are no shared facilities, no shared entry/exit, and that those staying are from the same household.

By limiting how many of some of our rooms are available, we can ensure that we comply safely with all these conditions, and look forward to welcoming you to Brathay Hall again.

Please check below for availability.
