Two apprentice groups supported by the Leadership Through Sport & Business Foundation faced the chilly Autumn weather head on for an impactful weekend with us in the Lake District.

The young people from Liverpool and Manchester were at the beginning of their two year journey with the charity which supports them into sustainable careers within Accountancy and Finance.

The residential was a chance for the two groups to come together and build confidence, as well as encourage them to use their leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills in a fun and active way. Skills which they can transfer to the world of work.

Undeterred by the cooler Autumn weather and shorter days, the group enjoyed every minute and packed a huge amount into their weekend, including high ropes challenges and raft building, along with all-important personal reflection built in around the outdoor activities.

Chris Oliver, North West Careers Development Manager at LTSB said:

The experience was everything we hoped for when we went about setting the idea up of a LTSB North-West residential.
Through all of your support, we were able to manage the mix of creating a fun, practical get-away for the group but also bringing it back to the real reasons why we were there - focusing on all the skills and qualities that the young people would need when progressing onto a career in accountancy and finance.
The Brathay Team got it spot on and our warmest thanks must go to Craig, Ian and Ian - who looked after us from the moment we set foot in Windermere, to when we headed back. It would be a no-brainer to have the same team looking after us for future visits.

Some of the many quotes from the young people below highlight their experience:

Had a great weekend thanks for everything 👍💕 learned a lot about myself and pushed myself out of my comfort zone, Brathay was such an experience !!! Loved the activities they put on for us and the food was amazing.
Brathay really pushed me out of my comfort zones and helped me feel more confident about my own abilities. I now have a stronger bond with others from both groups, and feel a better element of trust and friendship. I think it’s helped us all grow in different ways and learn about what a team really is.
Brathay was such an eye opening experience for myself and the rest of the group, it was great to bond with the Manchester cohort and develop skills with them, I’d recommend the residential to groups in the future as it was the perfect blend of doing activities and having spare time to reflect with everyone else 👍🏼the view wasn’t too bad either!
The trip was better than I expected. It showed me some of my characteristics and weaknesses and helped my see myself from an employers' perspective. I believe the trip helped with character building, it was challenging but fun and I would definitely recommend.

We can’t wait to welcome Leadership Through Sport & Business back!
