We had such a great response to our first Brathay Cycling Sportive we are planning a bigger and better one on Sunday 26 March 2017.

Tickets now available, please scroll down to book now.

Responding to feedback, our cycling sportive for 2017 has new routes of differing lengths and challenges suitable for a wider range of cycling experience and fitness. Starting and finishing at Brathay Hall there will be the: Brathay Breeze (15 miles); Brathay Belter (44 miles) and Brathay Brutal (58 miles).

Depending on your route, you’ll be taking in the amazing views of Coniston Water, Esthwaite Water and Windermere.

Proceeds will support Brathay’s work with vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, building their confidence, self esteem and skills. The experiences Brathay create inspire children and young people to make positive changes that will last a lifetime.

Whether you are a looking for a challenge, or a more leisurely bike ride with family and friends cycling Lake District lanes, save this date.

There’s plenty to hurry back for – with refreshments, food and a beer tent on the beautiful Brathay Hall estate.

Brathay Brutal

New for this year and kindly named by the team at Bike Bible after tackling our inaugural event, by popular demand we bring you the Brathay Brutal. At 58 miles the Brutal may not be the longest ride ever but with an early season 6,200ft of climbing it’s no small effort.

With the steeper climbs ranging between 20 and 25% you will certainly have to work for your end of ride meal (which is included by the way). With views over the Duddon Valley, Coniston Water and Windermere it is sure to be a scenic ride.

The Route

Entry is open to all over 18’s costing £22 including entry fees, food and drink at two refreshment stations and a meal at the finish at Brathay Hall, looking down the length of Windermere.

Brathay Belter

Building on a combination of our previous route and rides, we bring you the newly updated Brathay Belter. Changes to the route following feedback from last year result in a 44 mile route with 4,200ft climbing, presenting a nice early season challenge for those looking for a start to the 2017 cycling season.

Covering a combination of the 2016 route and sections from the Brathay Brutal the route offers those looking for a challenge, but something not quite so “brutal”, the opportunity to get some spring riding in. Including climbs such as Blea Tarn, but steering around Wrynose Pass (unlike the Brutal which goes over it), the route isn’t flat by any stretch of the imagination.

The Route

As last year’s event, entry is open to over 18’s with over 16’s being able to sign up if riding alongside a responsible adult. Entry is £22 for over 18’s or £40 a joint entry of one 16/17 year old and one responsible adult, a 10% saving on a standard entry.

Included in this are entry fees, food and drink at the refreshment station and a meal at the finish at Brathay Hall after the ride.

Brathay Breeze

For those new to cycling or just looking for something a bit less challenging, we bring you the Brathay Breeze. Whether you’re a complete cycling newbie or want some exercise while waiting for someone on the longer routes. The Brathay Breeze also offers an opportunity to burn of those final Christmas calories.

The Breeze presents an ideal opportunity for an enjoyable family weekend ride or a something gentle for those looking to take it easy. At 15 miles with a total of 1,400ft of climbing the Breeze is the ideal chance just to have a go.

The Route

Entry is open to over 12’s costing £10 for all 12-17 year olds, £15 for over 18’s or family tickets (1 adult and 2 children) are available for £30. For a small extra charge a meal at the finish at Brathay Hall can also be provided.
