Brathay works with young people who are disadvantaged or vulnerable, suffering abuse or neglect, social exclusion or who are outside employment, education and training. Our vision is of a society where all children and young people have access to formal and informal eduction to help them fulfill their potential.
Building for the Future is a campaign to build purpose built facilities to enable Brathay to continue working with young people in an appropriate and suitable environment. The next phase of the project includes a new and inspirational training centre which will benefit thousands of young people each year.
The building has been designed in consultation with 20 young people from the Edge Learner Forum in London and Cumbria. They presented their ideas which provided a valuable perspective into the features and facilities that are relevant to a young person. This is also a great way to continue Edge’s campaign to give young people opportunities as community partners and advisors.
The building’s design is enhanced by using environmentally friendly materials and the latest energy efficient technologies. It will be a self contained facility incorporating accommodation for 20 young people, kitchen and dining area and recreation and group work space. Access and facilities for wheelchair users are also included in addition to accommodation for supervising adults.
