Research

Brathay's founder always had a mission to actively initiate and deliver research into questions and issues relevant to education and learning.

The Brathay Academy

The Brathay Academy provides a centre for intellectual leadership in the field of personal and leadership and organisational development with young people and adults.  Through our research activities, we aim to be recognised and respected by policy makers and practitioners for our significant contributions to the national debate within the fields of education, youth work and management learning.

The Brathay Academy seeks to work in partnership with academic institutions, academics, service providers, organisations and practitioners; drawing together insight, knowledge, and experience to actively inform practice and policy locally, regionally and nationally.

Our research activities are directly supported through a strategic relationship with the University of Cumbria and together we jointly fund and support Brathay’s Research Practice Leader through the national Knowledge Transfer Partner scheme.

Working with our partners we aim to share the results of our research to the widest possible audience through the following activities;

  • Evaluation & action research
  • Practice & product development
  • Development of theory
  • Presentation at conferences and seminars
  • Membership of relevant committees and forums
  • Partnerships & consultancy
  • Research papers
  • Articles and letters
  • Books
  • Developing the developer, youth worker training and mentorship and academic teaching
Details of one of our current research evaluation projects, Integrated children & young people programme, can be found here.
