The Brathay research hub

The Brathay Research Hub

One of Brathay’s many distinctive features is its Research Hub. Brathay uses research and evaluation to underpin and develop its practice. Brathay utilises an action research approach underpinned by two forms of evidence.

The first is an external evidence base – this includes external fields of research, best practice and evidence based practice (EBP). The second source of evidence is our internal evidence base that is developed from attention to individual narratives, collective programme evaluations, and systematic meta-analyses.

Our research and evaluation approach balances rich qualitative data with quantitative data in an outcome based accountability framework supported by theory of change methodologies.

Our internal evidence base helps us to generate practice based evidence (PBE) such as Maynard’s (2010) Empowerment Model. We also offer our expertise to other organisations as shown on our Reserch & Evaluation Services webpage.

All our research is ethical and adheres to our Research Policy. Our on-going day to day evaluations are carried out as per the Research Strategy

“I needed an independent and rigorous assessment of our programme to learn the strengths of the programme and to be able to demonstrate to the board members the value of the programme. This case study (by Brathay) provided me with a theoretical framework for the programme that was linked with the practical outcomes and sessions and provided evidence of value for money. There was lots of feedback from the young people included which gave it a great foundation. Very good, very pleased, thank you Kaz.”

Helena Partnership 2011

"Youth Voice has been a priority issue for the Yorkshire & Humber Empowerment Partnership and we felt that there was a need to highlight some good practice case studies of empowering work. A previously negotiated piece of work to meet this aim had fallen through. Very helpful approach from Brathay led to successful negotiation and delivery of commission in a very short time. Good piece of written work, thanks!”
