Working with Young People
This two day course will cover key aspects of how to build relationships, engage, challenge and develop young people. The programme will cover both key theoretical aspects of working with young people, and practical skills.
Supporting Young People’s Empowerment
This one day programme is a bespoke training course that unpacks the concepts of ‘self-efficacy’, ‘human agency’ and ‘empowerment’. These are all fundamental to the success of the youth development at Brathay, delivering work that is congruent with these concepts facilitates transformational change in young people. The day will explore the concepts and how to use them in practice.
NLP for Youth Practitioners
This one day NLP introduction course is for all practitioners who work with children and young people. Participants will be introduced to a range of powerful NLP techniques, which can be used back in the work place. NLP enables us to explore how patterns of thinking, language and behaviour all arise from how we make sense of the world.
NLP Diploma for Youth Practitioners
This four day NLP Diploma Programme is for all practitioners who work with children and young people. You will discover new insights into your own thoughts, behaviours and effect on other people. NLP is about increasing choices. NLP is all about how we can communicate more effectively with others, and it provides a wealth of practical strategies that can be used immediately so that you become an even more creative practitioner.
This NLP course is accredited by The International NLP Trainers Association (INLPTA). INLPTA is a worldwide association of professional NLP Trainers and Master Trainers who are dedicated to establishing and maintaining the highest quality standards in NLP accreditation training.
Evidence-Based Practice
This two day course will equip you with the skills to develop evidence based practice in your workplace. Whether a manager or practitioner this course will work for you. We mix theory with practice to ensure that you leave at the end of two days ready to work in an EBP way. University of Cumbria accreditation available (20 M level credits) at an extra cost.
Practitioner (Action) Research
This two day course is for people who work with children and young people. This programme will equip you with the skills and understanding to carry out on-going research into practice (your own or others) in the workplace, leading to practice development. The programme will also develop your ability to evidence impact in your work. The programme will be a mix of theory and practical activities. Accreditation available through the University of Cumbria (20 credits at M level) at an extra fee.
Theory of Change
Theory of change is a tool that allows you to make the logic behind your service explicit. Once the long term aims, intermediary outcomes, outputs and interventions are mapped, indicators can be identified and an effective evaluation framework devised. This one day programme will lead you through the stages of theory of change for your service so you leave with a working document.

Children with complex needs need parents and professionals with advanced skills! I Matter Training has developed in response to an urgent need to provide parents and professionals with essential information needed to help them know how to respond to the needs of growing numbers of children with complex challenges. Creative Research Tools to Evidence Impact in Youth Work
This one day workshop will introduce you to the theory and practice of using creative tools. Brathay specialises in the use of tools that will both engage the hard to reach and access deeper levels of meaning than other tools might (such as surveys). You will leave with a practical pack of tools to use to evidence impact and distance traveled.

The effective lifelong learning inventory maps seven dimensions of learning that are fundamental to being an effective learner. ELLI is a holistic approach to assessing and developing learning. Courses run in partnership with Vital Partnerships.
