Health & Safety Policy
Brathay Hall Trust uses a wide range of practical and creative activities, often in unfamiliar settings, to reveal and develop human potential. Effective management of risk is central to these activities.
The Board of Trustees and Chief Executive expect everyone within the organisation to promote this risk management policy as part of their daily working practices. The Trust recognises and accepts its duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and delegated legislation. We are committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of each other, as employees, and of those affected by our operations, be they clients, contractors or the general public. These are obligations which apply to all of us, irrespective of where our activities are carried out. This duty in particular includes:
The provision and maintenance of plant and systems of work that are, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risks to health;arrangements for ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, safety and absence of risks to health in connection with the use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances;
The provision of such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the Health & Safety at work of employees;so far as is reasonably practicable as regards any place of work under the Trust’s control, the maintenance of it in a condition that is safe and without risks to health and the provision and maintenance of means of access to and egress from it that are safe and without such risks;the provision and maintenance of a working environment for the Trust’s employees that is, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe, without risk to health, and adequate as regards facilities and arrangements for their welfare at work.
Consistent with learning objectives, Brathay is committed to managing and wherever appropriate, reducing the risk of:personal injury, emotional trauma and occupational ill health; particularly in respect of young people, for whom we have a special ‘duty of care’ and those staff who work in physically or emotionally challenging situationsloss caused through damage to property, fire and lapses in security.
Most importantly, Brathay expects its directors and managers to foster a safety culture, to manage Health & Safety as an integral part of their business and to ensure that appropriate consideration is given to safety issues. Processes and systems of work will be designed and supervised accordingly.
