On Sunday 17 May the Brathay Windermere Marathon 2009 took place. Nearly 1000 runners took part in what has now become established as one of the best running events in the country. In a survey carried out by Runners World magazine the marathon was voted as the UK’s 10th most popular race in a published list of the Top 50 Events of 2008. Only one other marathon in the list appears above the Brathay Windermere Marathon, which is the Flora London Marathon in 8th position.
Our thanks to all those who helped make this years Marathon such a wonderful event and to all those who came out to support the runners and cheer them on around the route.

Did you know?
- Windermere is England’s largest lake.
- The marathon route is the most scenic in the UK.
- The route runs anti-clockwise, passing through Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.
- Starting and finishing at Brathay Hall, the route around Windermere is exactly 26.2 miles – the required distance for recognition as a full marathon course.
- The Windermere Marathon was last held on 17 May 2009.
